Description
Monocryl Monofilament Suture, Size 2-0, 27", is a synthetic absorbable suture composed of poliglecaprone 25. It is designed for soft tissue approximation and ligation where an absorbable material is preferred. The monofilament configuration results in minimal tissue drag and a smoother passage through tissue compared to multifilament sutures, reducing surgical trauma and promoting efficient wound healing.
This suture is equipped with a reverse cutting needle, optimized for penetrating dense or tough tissues. The needle’s cutting edge facilitates precise placement while minimizing tissue damage. The reverse cutting configuration provides added strength at the needle tip, making it suitable for areas requiring secure closure such as skin or fascia.
Monocryl retains approximately 60–70% of its original tensile strength at one week post-implantation. This predictable loss in strength is aligned with the healing timeline of many soft tissue procedures. The suture is completely absorbed through hydrolysis within 91 to 119 days, leaving no residual material and eliminating the need for suture removal.
