Brown Chromic Gut 5-0 C-3 12" suture is an absorbable surgical suture composed of purified connective collagen tissue derived from the submucosal layer of sheep or beef intestines. The chromic treatment delays absorption and increases tensile strength by cross-linking collagen fibers. This suture is designed for soft tissue approximation and ligation where absorbability is required, reducing the need for suture removal after healing.

The suture is coated with chromic salts, which help reduce tissue reaction and prolong tensile strength retention. Brown Chromic Gut maintains approximately 50% of its tensile strength for up to 7 to 10 days and is completely absorbed within 90 days. This characteristic makes it suitable for tissues that heal rapidly but require temporary support during the initial healing phase. 

The reverse cutting needle, coded C-3, is designed with a triangular cross-section and a cutting edge on the outer curvature. This configuration facilitates penetration through dense or tough tissues such as skin and fascia, providing precise wound edge approximation. The needle length and size are optimized for use in delicate and precise surgical procedures where controlled handling is essential.
