Kevzara (sarilumab) is a prescription medication indicated for the treatment of moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis in adults. It is a fully human monoclonal antibody that targets and inhibits interleukin-6 (IL-6) receptors, which play a significant role in the inflammatory process associated with rheumatoid arthritis. By blocking IL-6 signaling, Kevzara helps reduce inflammation, pain, and damage to the joints.
Administered as a subcutaneous injection, Kevzara is typically given once every two weeks. The recommended dosage depends on the patient’s condition and their response to treatment. The injection is provided in a prefilled pen, with each dose containing 200 mg of sarilumab per 1.14 mL.
Common side effects of Kevzara include upper respiratory infections, injection site reactions, and headache. Serious risks may involve gastrointestinal perforations, liver issues, and infections. As a biologic agent, Kevzara should be used cautiously in patients with a history of infections, liver disease, or other medical conditions that could compromise the immune system.
